GRD Iyers
We are the GRD Iyers - Gayathri, Ramesh and our daughter Durga.
We have created this website to share with you some of our thoughts, activities, interests and resources. You will find audio links to youtube for our renditions of Mahanyasam and Devi Mahatmyam. Others like Sundarakandam etc. are under under construction but will be made available regularly over a period of time. Updates are being made on a daily basis and hence keep checking for updates. Our unconditional apologies at the very outset for any errors in chanting or religious / scriptural text content.
Gayathri will be providing some delicious recipes and her wonderful poetical musings in Tamil .
Durga has still to decide what she wants to share. Here interests are in horse riding, sports (volleyball, basketball etc), Bharatnatyam, Carnatic music and Air Cadets.
During my quest for continued learning, I faced difficulties in coming across audio for the scriptures I was learning. Either they were not available or were chanted very fast by experts that made it difficult to practise along. Therefore, this is our humble effort to make amateur audio recordings available in our website, with the specific purpose of helping amateurs like myself to chant along. We hope that they are useful and your feedback is important to us. This is because, continuous improvement for perfection is our endeavour and perfection is a never-ending pursuit and the journey needs to be enjoyed for quality results.
Note: The audio renditions are an amateur effort created by using basic audio software with an aim to provide them as "chanting practice audio training aids". They have been recorded in small sections, are deliberately slow with an exaggerated emphasis on "swaras" (notes for Vedic chanting) and "deerghams" (elongated vowels). But there may be pitching issues as recording has been done at different times and without a shruti box. Hence, they may not make for good listening if the purpose is only to listen and not learn chanting. But by playing the various sections repeately and chanting along regularly, one can improve one's fluency in chanting. In this manner, one can complete learning the entire piece, whether it be Mahanyasam, Devi Mahatmyam, Sundarakandam, Suktams etc. at one's own pace and convenience.
